2. Do you accept group
operator vouchers?
We accept vouchers from travel agents by prior arrangement. Invoices are payable within 14
days of visit. Cheque payments must be in sterling drawn on a UK bank. Please contact us
to set up your voucher scheme.
3. What is your cancellation
policy?
We will refund all fees if for any reason a group cannot attend. There is no need to
advise us of a cancellation, but it would be appreciated if you did so.
4. Are there special rates for students, teachers or senior citizens?
We strive to keep our admission charges as low as possible, so there are no concessions
except for groups of more than 10 visitors (10% discount). Blind people are admitted at
the child rate of £4.
5. How long does the visit
last?
The duration of most visits is between 1/2 hour - 45 minutes, which includes time for
shopping in our souvenir shop on the ground floor of the Museum. The tours are self-guided
so you can arrange the length of the visit to suit your purposes. We provide a free
written guide in various languages.
6. What is the minimum and
maximum size for a group?
The minimum number of people required for a group discount is 11, and
there is no maximum limit. A large group is divided into smaller groups of about 15
people, so one or two groups of 15 students each may visit the shop while the remainder of
the group visits the Museum. We can accommodate around 45 students in the museum at any
one time. Some sections of your group may need to wait outside the Museum if we are too
crowded to allow the whole group into the building.
7. Do we have to pre-book?
You do not need to pre-book, but it would be helpful to know the date and time of the
proposed visit in advance. We cannot guarantee to give priority to pre-bookings,
especially in the busy summer months, but if your group is scheduled to arrive at a
particular time, we can try to ensure that your group is admitted as quickly as possible.
8 . Can we book in
advance by telephone?
9. Do
you provide an activity sheet?
Yes - please see the link to the quiz paper below. We are currently working on a much more
extensive paper for group visitors to enable them to learn more about the life and times
of Sherlock Holmes and to help with learning English vocabulary.
10. What
about disabled access?
Physically disabled people in a wheelchair would have difficulty in gaining access to the
Museum because there is insufficient room for wheelchairs to be admitted to the lodging
rooms upstairs. The shop on the ground floor is easily accessible via wheelchair and we
welcome any person with disabilities.
11. What
time of the day is best to fully benefit from a visit?
You may visit any time of the day between
9.30am to 6pm. The Museum closes promptly at 6pm and all visitors must leave the premises
at that time, so please do allow adequate time for your visit!
12. We intend to give the children
a questionnaire based on the one you give on your site, but simplified. Is it
possible to do so?
You can modify and use any part of
our website for educational purposes.
13.
What free documents are given to the children?
We
will give the children a postcard each, a badge, and a business card of Sherlock Holmes,
as well as the Museum brochure on arrival. Musuem tours are self-guided using the
brochure.
14. Coach parking / Lunch / Toilets?
Coaches can park outside the Museum for loading and unloading of passengers from 10am -
4pm daily and at other times at the discretion of the parking wardens! There are no parking restrictons on Sundays. Visitors may like to eat a
picnic lunch in the environs of Regents Park which is opposite the museum. Toilet facilities are available in the basement of our property.
