1st Job Vacancy - Events Organiser - "Mrs Hudson"

The Sherlock Holmes Museum at 221b Baker Street London, is seeking an Events Organiser - a convivial "Mrs Hudson" or "Victorian Maid" who is able to receive visitors to the Museum. A costume consisting of a long green or black dress is provided in keeping with the Victorian period.

Applicants should have an interest in the late Victorian period, be out-going and friendly,  and must have well-spoken English. You will be required to meet and greet people at the house (mainly overseas tourists) and to be in attendance to answer any queries. We also have a large heritage gift shop on the ground floor where you will be needed to assist with the selling of memorabilia to the Museum visitors.

If you have creative ideas so much the better! You may be able to arrange the publication of heritage material and to organise the busy cultural activities of a popular tourist attraction.

There are many groups visiting the Museum consisting of 30 or more young people, so you will need to be able to organise these groups and if necessary plan events for them.

It's a fun and versatile job requiring charisma and sometimes diplomacy! You will need to have a mature outlook, and aged between  21 yrs - 50 yrs.

There is the option to work part-time or full-time. The starting pay  is £8.00 gross per hour and the museum is open from 9.30am - 6pm every day.

2nd Job Vacancy - Graphic Designer

We are seeking a talented Graphic Designer for designing brochures and artwork for   souvenirs, such as bookmarks, mugs, playing cards etc.  Applicants should have experience using Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw and must be able to liase with manufacturers and printers.

Most of our items have a "Victorian" look and therefore you should have a natural feel for this period.

This is an advanced style of silhouette which you would need to create based upon the above silhouette and photograph of Sherlock Holmes. Notice the 3-d effect, the ivory colour, and the detail in the hair and clothes. We need a silhouette of Sherlock Holmes in this style!

We are also seeking a French web designer for developing a French section to our website that can be used by French teachers in their English language lessons.

 

3rd Job vacancy - 'Sherlock Holmes' and 'Victorian Policeman'

The Sherlock Holmes Museum is looking for someone to play the part of a Victorian Policeman or Sherlock Holmes, who is able to meet and greet tourists visiting the Museum. The job involves interacting with the visitors, posing for photographs, and generally acting as a good public relations figure for the Museum. The Victorian Policeman is required to work at the front door of the Museum, while Sherlock Holmes is required to attend in costume at various tourist locations for the purpose of distributing Holmes's 'business card' to tourists/potential museum visitors.

Applicants should be at least 6' tall, slim, well spoken, with an outgoing and friendly personality. The job would suit a student looking for extra money.

There is the option to work part-time or full-time. The pay is £8.00 per hour and the museum is open from 9.30am - 6pm every day.

We are seeking a talented editor for our online journal 'The Baker Street Times'. This publication presents the Life and Times of Sherlock Holmes to a wide audience around the world. The paper is currently in its draft stage - so we want an editor with ideas! The draft is shown on our website.
